Winning Teachers 2011
Anna Farago
Weston Collegiate Institute
Toronto
One category in the OTIP Teaching Awards is reserved for teachers in their first five years of practice. All of the promise of our newest teachers was found in this year’s honouree, Anna Farago.
Anna is an English teacher at Weston Collegiate in Toronto. The fact that she was nominated by students and this nomination was supported by staff indicates her excellence as a teacher. Anna goes beyond the classroom and connects with students on a personal level and motivates them to success. Anna runs the school newspaper, girls’ fitness program, yoga, helped start the breakfast program and, perhaps her greatest achievement, runs the W2W (Weston to the World) studio.
The W2W studio allows students to use recording equipment at lunch and after school. Through their productions, they have publicized themselves and Weston Collegiate to the world.
