Winning Teachers 2005
Stéphane Fortier
Chemistry Teacher
École secondaire catholique Sainte-Famille
Mississauga
A teacher for six years, Stéphane Fortier is a science teacher who teaches Grade 12 Chemistry at l’École secondaire catholique Sainte-Famille in Mississauga.
Stéphane brings the magic of chemistry literally and figuratively to his classroom in a way that inspires his students and colleagues.
His nominator said of Stéphane, “The Great Magician of this course is Stéphane Fortier, an alchemist by vocation; he adopts the style of a mentor so as to provide the students with basic training and then spurs them on to extend themselves further.”
He utilizes up-to-date technology to engage his students in a way that is hypnotic. He uses little projects to demonstrate chemistry principles in unique and extraordinary ways.
His students especially appreciate the independence he allows his students in pursuing their learning. This is an important step in preparing young people for post-secondary education and, indeed, for life.
From idea to design, from motivation to performance, from teaching to passion – what a beautiful chain of events!
