A teacher for 16 years, Johanne Leroux is the Fine Arts Coordinator at Ottawa’s École secondaire publique De La Salle.
Over and beyond teaching, Johanne is one of the art school’s best ambassadors, promoting the institution through such activities as shows and audience-participation programs on Radio Canada.
Never satisfied with the ordinary, Johanne encourages her students to do better and to take on challenges – something she always does with a smile.
She is an accomplished artist who teaches instrumental and theatrical music in grades 9 to 12.
Under her supervision, students taking theory have written a musical arrangement for a piece by Alain Thibault; the piece was subsequently performed by the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
At a music festival in Toronto, a piece that was much too difficult for her students was suggested to her. The piece was indeed difficult but her students rose to the occasion and gave a superb performance.
An inspiration to her colleagues as well, Johanne encourages everyone near her to continue learning and improving and recognizes effort. Notes of appreciation are sent to all the people she works with.
